Buddhist Monks Visit Virginia State University during 2,300-Mile National Peace Walk

Virginia State University was honored to welcome 19 Buddhist monks from the Huong Dao Vipassana Bhavana Center as part of their 2,300 mile peace walk from Texas to the White House, a journey centered on healing, unity, and compassion.

On Saturday, January 31, 2026, Day 98 of their journey, the monks spent the evening on VSU’s campus engaging with students during a special program at the Alfred W. Harris Academic Commons. Students heard directly from the monks and experienced a live performance by the Trojan Explosion Marching Band, creating a meaningful moment of reflection, dialogue, and connection.

VSU also hosted the monks’ extended support team, providing overnight accommodations and medical support while University staff worked quickly to ensure a safe and welcoming stay.

Following their visit, the monks shared their gratitude and thanked Virginia State University for its warmth, hospitality, and caring spirit, noting that the support they received helped sustain their journey.

Virginia State University was proud to be part of this inspiring experience as the monks continue toward Washington, D.C., where their peace walk will conclude on February 11, 2026.
